The Firm
An engineering practice built around evidence.
Certified Engineering Inc investigates structural failure, establishes cause, and produces analysis that holds up under scrutiny it does not choose.
Certified Engineering Inc is a forensic and structural engineering practice. The firm investigates structural failure, establishes cause, and produces analysis that holds up under the scrutiny it will not choose — opposing experts in litigation, audit under public contract, and peer review before a code body.
The practice is retained by government agencies, institutional owners, insurers and their counsel, and international clients. Its work spans buildings, bridges, and industrial structures, and covers the full arc of a matter: first inspection, evidence preservation, computational analysis, written opinion, and testimony.
The firm additionally specialises in reverse engineering — recovering the capacity and design intent of structures whose documentation is missing, incomplete, or contradicted by what was actually built. This work is supported by analysis tooling developed in-house, because commercial software presumes a documented design that in these matters does not exist.
Method
How an engagement runs.
Published so a client knows the sequence before the first invoice, and so the record is defensible after the last.
01
Intake & conflict check
A conflict check is run before any matter is accepted. Scope, schedule, and the specific question to be answered are agreed in writing at the outset.
02
Investigation & evidence preservation
Site inspection under documented protocol, with evidence preserved to a chain-of-custody standard suitable for proceedings. Sampling and testing programs are specified before material is disturbed.
03
Analysis & modeling
Computational models are built to be reproduced — meshed, validated against measured behavior, and documented so an opposing expert can run the same analysis and reach the same result.
04
Reporting & testimony
Findings are issued as a written opinion with the underlying data appended. Deposition and trial testimony are provided where the matter proceeds.
Quality assurance
Controls on the work.
Independent review
Conclusions of consequence are reviewed against the underlying data before an opinion is issued.
Reproducible analysis
Models, inputs, and assumptions are documented and retained so any finding can be reconstructed years later.
Chain of custody
Physical evidence and field data are logged and preserved to a standard that survives challenge in proceedings.
Conflict management
Conflict checks precede acceptance, and adverse engagements are declined rather than screened.
